Abstract

Studies have shown that laser therapy can contribute to pain relief and cicatrization, being a powerful complementary treatment for patients with venous ulcers. In this scenario, this work aims to clarify the contribution of laser therapy and the importance of multidisciplinary work in the treatment of venous ulcers through a literature review. Consulted databases were Google Scholar, Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior from Brazil (CAPES) and the National Library of Medicine (PUBMED), in which studies performed between 1998 and 2015 were searched. At the end of the study, it was concluded that the multidisciplinary team is extremely important for the treatment of venous ulcers since there is a need for topical and systemic care. In this regard, laser therapy is an important support for patients’ welfare. However, more studies are necessary related to the application of laser and its benefits in the treatment of patients with this pathology.
