THE INHIBITORY ACTIVITY OF OZONE GAS IN SOLID AND LIQUID MEDIA ON CANDIDA ALBICANS, IN VITRO
Main Article Content
Abstract
Candida albicans is 50% more prevalent among the varieties present in Candidiasis, 84% of toenails are affected by onychomycosis. In recent times the use of ozone has been developed in its various presentations because it is highly oxidative. The objective of this work is to compare different times and concentrations of ozone application on Candida albicans inactivation in vitro. Applications occurred in solid medium in the polyethylene bag, saline and drinking water, due to the high virulence factor and resistance acquired by antifungals. We used the standard Candida albicans strain from the Anhembi Morumbi University campus Humanities laboratory and Ozone & Life model O&L 1.5M ozone generator equipment coupled to the medical oxygen cylinder. The effectiveness of ozonated media was determined by cultivating samples after ozone treatment in Sabouraud Dextrose Broth and incubating at 37 ° C for 24 - 48 hours when colonies were counted. The results obtained in saline in group one promoted exponential growth of CFU in 25 minutes at ¼LO2 x 25mg / O3. In group two in saline solution ¼LO2 x 65mg / O3 there was 100% colony inactivation. And in drinking water and solid medium there was 100% inactivation.
