Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the microbicidal effect of ozone gas at different concentrations and times before pathogenic microorganisms: Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus and Candida albicans grown in Petri dishes. Material and Methods: The effect of ozone gas against standardized strains of the bacteria Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853 and Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 and the yeast Candida albicans ATCC 10231 was tested in six different concentrations using an ozone generator. Group 1: without treatment; experimental groups with treatment: ozone: Group 2: 60 µg / ml at 10 minutes, Group 3: 40 µg / ml at 10 minutes, Group 4: 30 µg / ml at 10 minutes, Group 5: 20 µg / ml at 5 minutes and Group 6: 15 µg / ml at 5 minutes. The microorganisms were inoculated into Petri dishes with blood agar and then received the ozone gas. Results: Ozone gas showed antimicrobial activity in most of the concentrations used. Conclusion: Ozone gas showed a valuable antimicrobial activity against the microorganisms tested. A single topical spray application of each used ozone concentration inhibited the growth of most strains of potentially pathogenic bacteria with known resistance to antimicrobial agents.
